Letting Go part 2
small steadies – Hyacinth & amaryllis. Cat and tea. 2B pencil, china marker, ruler, nickel azo yellow, cobalt blue – a hundred tiny anchors to hold me without hindrance as I spin from paint to voice to cello to words to page and around again around the other way.
Here’s what’s happened to the painting since my blog post of 2 days ago:
Where we were
The lower D ring was too strong, so I obscured it with white. Now a red wash to pick up the white resist & push it back farther…
And then another red wash, and a yellow one, and the whole thing looked washed out to me – not enough contrast. Add to that the fact that the snaffle bit and the Uffington horse seemed now to be fighting for dominance in the painting. I didn’t like it. Wallpaper without risk…
nice texture, no tension.
so I did this
cobalt and ultramarine
Added more pull in the metal, chalk to the horse (still needs a bit more), and NOW we’re getting somewhere. It’s talking again.
I think we’re almost there. More punch, still…
