I wanted to honour the spout on this beautiful coffee pot, made 80 years ago in a factory confiscated by the 3rd Reich in a tiny Czech village.  Beautifully designed curves, detailed with hand painted gilded lines over the white porcelain.

February 28, 2021 – still in lockdown, but loving this exploration of a coffee set made 80 years ago in a Nazi- occupied Czechoslovakian village during WWII.

I wanted to honour the spout! Beautifully designed curves, detailed with hand painted gilded lines over the white porcelain. By now this pot is a living thing that I get to know more each time I paint it.

I love the way this spout becomes itself as it rises through the textures into the light. The cup feels like a punctuation in that story. The strong lines in the chaotic ground give this piece a kind of …time I think. They rise upward and to the right, anchored by the forms.
